Let’s party! Birthday parties for kids are a pretty important event. This is the one day of the year, set aside to celebrate this important person in your life. The entire celebration is about the birth of that person. The spotlight is on your kid and is not shared with any other meanings, no matter how honorable or important. Sometime parents go all out with a “no price is too high” attitude. But, most of us have a budget. So, how do we make this one special day an unforgettable event? We will give you some ideas.

Themes change according to the age of the child. We are aiming our ideas toward children under the age of 12. The reason for this is by 13, most kids have their own ideas of awesome. They want to do it all their way.

Creativity, Presence, and Impulsiveness

There are many forms of entertainment and many pre-arranged plans you can incorporate into your child’s party. But, from the standpoint of the child, rarely are these the things they crave. With that said, there are exceptions. Sometimes all Suzie wants is an inflatable castle to jump in. Maybe she experienced that at a friends party or saw one in passing. If that is the case, there is nothing wrong with renting the castle. But, most of the time, the child wants to see what you come up with. In other words, it is the thrill of discovery, along with your full attention and ability to roll with it that makes all the difference. Do not let the “trending” media campaigns stop you from just having fun.

Suggestions

Here are a few suggestions to help you get your creative juices flowing.

  • Sea of blue

This is a fun game that is easy to do and will keep the kids busy. Take plastic treat bags and fill them with shades of blue candy. Here is a link to all of your favorite selections (which can be ordered online), http://www.sweetservices.com/blue-candy/. Before sealing the candy, drop in a glow stick or glow bracelet that has been activated. In a small yard or inside the house in an open room, toss the bags of candy around. Blow up balloons. They should all be blue and should make a good one layer covering. You have created your sea. As the children run into the room, the balloons are kicked, and move and glowing bags are visible. The children collect their treasure, which is their take home goodies.

Note: You can release the children a few at a time, or by age to insure everyone is safe and no little ones get knocked down. You can also make a rule that once they grab a bag they run back and get to the end of the line. This is so everyone gets at least one bag. Also, have extra bags to throw in the room if you want to keep the game going.

  • Drive-In Movie

Most of us remember going to a drive-in movie when we were kids. This game allows the kids to make a car, and go to the drive in. Gather cardboard boxes, and cut them so they come up to the child’s elbow when sitting inside. Use black plastic plates glued to the box for wheels and a different color for the steering wheel. Let the kids decorate their cars with stickers and markers. Tape off a “parking lot” in a room. Let the kids “drive/push” to their parking space. Give the children cups of popcorn, drinks, and darken the room, and pop in a movie.

There are plenty of other ideas on games you can let the kids do with you. They will have lots of fun and they will never forget the unique party, created just for them.
