Millennial Mamas and Sony Pictures Animation took our family to the LONDON for a Tea Party in the garden and a special screening of Peter Rabbit!
The perfect Springtime adventure up above the city on a rooftop garden, set with white linens and stacked trays of cakes and sandwiches. Hot cups of “Peter’s Garden Tea” made exclusively by The Republic of Tea, being poured as guests mingle through the tables. Cute fluffy bunnies being hugged by curious kids. Friends being made as they run around the party laughing and playing.
Then a special appearance from the star of the movie! Photos with the rebel rabbit himself. Celebrating the movie Peter Rabbit with family and friends at The London Hotel in Hollywood was the perfect way to welcome this classic story from across the pond, to our lives here in lala land. The movie was about to begin and we were all excited and ready to enjoy the film!
My little girl Izzy had become friends with a few kids we often run into at movie screenings. She makes friends easily wherever she goes (If you follow me on Facebook you probably already know she certainly isn’t shy LOL), but she and Erin’s daughter Mia have a special bond. When they see each other they grab hands and run off like no time had passed. The girls played with the jumbo chess set and sat at the little tables are always available in the garden for guests of The London. They were figuring our where they should sit in the theatre to be near friends and also by their mommies, of course. Sweet things.
After doing some magic tricks for the girls with his special top hat and suit jacket that he wore specially, our son Cruz headed down the elevator, across the lush London Hotel lobby, and into the screening lounge where his dreams came true. There were more snacks!! He’s focussed on filling up with 2 bags of movie popcorn and then tried to sneak a soda pop too. Mom encouraged a Perrier instead. But, it is a special occasion in the middle of the day on a Friday (half day at school too) so, maybe it’s okay after all, right? We all get our treats and beverages, take our seats, and anticipate the Peter Rabbit movie with a crowd of family friends and junior film critics.
Actually, my daughter Izzy had come with me on official assignment. She reviews movies for KidsFirst Media, an organization of talented young critics who write reviews, produce videos, interview stars, and put out a weekly podcast that’s carried on Huffington Post. She’s got good reason to pay attention to every detail in this film, so she gets serious and says to me as the opening credits begin “It’s Sony Animation so you know the CGI is going to be top notch.”
My mini-me was so right! The animation was captivating. I couldn’t help but to be mesmerized by the way the animal characters moved around- so many of them on screen at the same time- looking like they would totally just naturally be wearing cute clothing and speaking english! I bought it instantly. I immediately fell into their world and never looked back. The live action and animation worked together seamlessly. The audience of kids and grown-ups was completely captivated. The narration by Daisy Ridley was perfect as she told the tale of the classic Peter Rabbit story to start us off. The jokes in the dialogue were right on point. Funny lines for little ears were adorable, and clever lines flew right over there heads but kept parents laughing. James Corden had pitch perfect delivery as Peter Rabbit. Rose Byrne was the kind and pretty neighbor. The casting couldn’t have been better.
Without giving it all away, I can say that my kids, 9 and 5, both said it was a 5 STAR movie and that they’d recommend you go see it! You can watch Izzy’s film reviews for 2018 on YouTube anytime here. I’ve posted more pics on my Instagram account where I also had some movie ticket giveaways.
